TAIZ – On the occasion of his silver jubilee since he became president, President Ali Abdullah Saleh was hailed in Taiz last week through a number of cultural activities in Taiz signaling the President's achievements during the last quarter of a century including reuniting Yemen and establishing democracy and political pluralism.
A grand festival was held on July 17 at al-Shuhada (Martyrs) square in Taiz City. During the festival, a speech was delivered by Mr. Abdulqader Bajammal, the cabinet premier in which he praised President Saleh's achievements and accomplishments for Yemen. Another speech was delivered by Taiz Governor, Judge Ahmed Abdullah al-Hajri, followed by a number of folklore dances and songs representing different Yemeni governorates.
Around 350 musicians, dancers, and artists took part in the event.
The festival was sponsored by the Hael Saeed Ana'am Group of Companies represented by Mr. Showqi Ahmed Hael Saeed Ana'am.
The festival was attended by a number of ministers, members of the Shura Council and the parliament, dignitaries, and a host of others.
Other activities, which were organized by the Taiz-based al-Saeed Foundation for Science and Culture, included a plastic art exhibition held during July 17-26 at the foundation's exhibit hall and a lecture entitled “July 17 and first seeds democracy” to be delivered by Mr. Abdullah Sultan today, July 21.
A number of literary lectures to be presented by young Yemeni talents on this occasion area also scheduled to take place at the foundation's headquarters on July 24.
