More support through Yemeni-European dialogue [Archives:2006/919/Local News]
SANA'A, Feb. 8 ) The 13th round of the joint Yemeni- European partnership committee concluded Wednesday, Feb. 8. Headed by the European Union Foreign Secretary, EU representatives together with their ambassadors in Sana'a participated in the meeting.
Mohamed Ahmed Sofan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, confirmed the importance of EU partnership in supporting development plans and fighting poverty. He also highlighted its part in supporting judiciary, wise governance, combating corruption and promoting democracy.
Sofan ascertained that EU support will help decrease Yemen's poverty rate from 49 to 35 percent between 2006 and 2010, in addition to its education, health, water and population efforts. Support will concentrate on food, health, social security, the fish sector, promoting democracy and supporting election and civic organizations. The EU announced it will offer 70 million Euros for such programs between 2007 and 2009. EU support to Yemen in the past two years was 30 million Euros.
