Parliament denounces defaming of Prophet [Archives:2006/916/Local News]
SANA'A, Jan. 29 ) The Yemeni Parliament Saturday denounced the defamation of the Prophet Mohamed by caricature in Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten, saying it contradicts religious freedom.
Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Committee issued a statement about the insult confirming that Yemen's government and its citizens denounce such defamation, which contradicts religious tolerance. It demanded the United Nations human rights departments, topped by the Human Rights High Commission, as well as international human rights organizations, including European ones, live up to their commitments to defend individuals' rights. The parliamentary committee urged such organizations to stop the spread of hatred and insulting peoples' culture and faith.
The statement requested Arab countries, the Islamic Conference Organization and Arab and Islamic foreign ministers follow up the matter with concerned nations and organizations to force the Danish government to apologize for this grave insult.
