Police Hunt Down Attackers on Police [Archives:2001/01/Local News]

The Yemeni police in al-Sayani district, Ibb 195km to the south of Sanaa are still hunting out perpetrators of the attack on the police station in the area. Sources in Ibb said the police arrested one of the assailants but five others are still at large.
Last Tuesday six gunned men attacked the police station in al-Sayani to free some of their relatives detained for criminal charges. The assailants clashed with the guards of the station jail killing two of the soldiers. But, they failed to set their relative free. The police damaged their houses in two villages and are still chasing them to bring them to justice.
Official sources in the area denied any political motivation behind the attack but local sources said that Walid Shamlan, head of the attackers, had a brother that had been to Afghanistan and was wanted by the authorities. One of the assailants is also one of those who witnessed the marriage document writing ceremony of Usama bin Laden and the daughter of Ahmed Abdulfatah al-Saddah .
