Projects for protection of marine environment [Archives:2004/732/Local News]

The Republic of Yemen has requested the UNEP to work towards finding pioneering projects in the field of environmental protection, in collaboration with all countries situated on the Red Sea.
The Prime Minister, Mr. Ba Jamal, during a meeting with Mr. Klaus Toefer, Executive Director of UNEP, confirmed the importance of coordination among the countries located on the Red Sea in order to protect fisheries and the marine environment.
Mr. Ba Jamal considers the priority of the projects to be established under the supervision of the UNEP economic operation of the Red Sea in the fields of tourism and transport.
The official promised that these suggestions would get the attention of UNEP during the upcoming period, especially since the UNEP is intensifying its efforts to preserve the marine environment in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
