Yemen calls for an international conference to define terror [Archives:2004/735/Local News]
The Republic of Yemen, during the 110th Conference of International Parliamentary Union, concluded on Friday 23 April, at the Mexican capital, called on the International community to put an end to assassinations of the Palestinians and to enable them to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as their capital.
The speech of Yemen, delivered by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abdulwahab Mahmoud, head of Yemen delegation to the conference called for the return of sovereignty of Iraq and the departure of foreign occupation forces from its land. It also confirmed the importance to hold an international conference under the auspices of United Nations to define terrorism, to determine the means to combat it and to eliminate its motives and reasons. It also called for the adoption of principle of dialogue between cultures as the means to settle all disputes and political and ethnic conflicts.
The Speech of Yemen reviewed the transformations and developments taking place in Yemen in various economic and political aspects, in addition to the successes in the development operation and the comprehensive reforms operation. It called for the contribution of advanced countries to enhance emerging democracy and support the development in poor countries through the exemption of these countries from the accumulated debts on them. Yemen also asked to encourage and support the political and economic reforms in several countries of the Middle East without interfering in their internal affairs.
