Young Yemeni People Fighting in Chechnya [Archives:1999/50/Local News]

Reliable sources have told the Yemen Times that about 200 young Yemenis are fighting against Russia in Chechnya. At another level about 50 Yemeni Afghanis arrived in Pakistan last month for military training before transferring them to Chechnya. The same source said that young Yemeni men are transferred to Chechnya through an office headed by an Islamic leader under the slogan of Fighting for God. It is also said that a well known Islamic leader has donated a great amount of money to help carry out these operations and to provide each person with tickets and US$ 500 per month.
